My father and I spent a weekend in England at the start of our trip to Europe this summer so we could go to the Imperial War Museums in London and Duxford. The Duxford museum is located at an old airfield and has quite the collection of military aircraft. Coincidentally, the day we were there, they were also hosting a car show that featured the British AC Club. I got to see some really interesting and rare cars as well as the usual British suspects like that TR5 up there. I forget which plane that is, but if ttyymmnn sees this, I’m sure they know. I didn’t take notes as to what everything was, but I’ll do my best to describe the more obscure stuff.
I just dig the 2-door ST. Long live coupes.
2 Litre Sports Tourer. These were the first postwar AC’s and stayed in production until the mid 50's. This one looked later than the black one above.
I believe this is an AC Royal Roadster with its straight six overhead cam engine. Circa 1925.
The mascot is a greyhound, but that was a postwar AC. This is a 16/80 from the mid-30's. Only 40 of these 80 horsepower sports cars were built plus 4 supercharged 90 horsepower versions. It was apparently one of the best handling cars of its day.
2 Litre Saloon
AC 3000ME, the car that basically killed AC. It was supposed to be the follow up to the Cobra, but delays caused by an initial terrible crash test meant it never really got off the ground after much money was burned. Only 80 left the factory.
A Ghia bodied Cobra. Like giving a blow job to a blow job.
AC Greyhound convertible. Powered by a 2.2 liter Bristol motor.
AC was relaunched in the 90's with this car, the Brooklands Ace. Apparently a comfortable and capable grand tourer powered by a Ford V8 only no one was interested and 58 cars were all that were built.
AC 428 Frua
The local Jalop club was also there.
I also got a ride in this De Havilland Tiger Moth and the pilot let me take the stick for a while so now I can say I flew a plane. We totally went left that time I moved the stick to the left. It was amazing.
Wheeee!

The plane’s a Bristol Brittania. Google is your friend once you have the registration number...

Awesome, I really digged that 3000ME! So rare.
And dear lord. That Ghia bodied Cobra is epic. As is that remark about giving a blow job to a blow job. ;-)
And then I fainted...
Even RHD!

the 3000ME is a great looking car, too. All those AC’s are. But, that one looks ahead of its time. More 80's than 70's.
That Ghia had me breathing hard and then the Alpine took my breath away. Incredible. I guess it’s an original British car. I kept hanging around it hoping the guy would offer me a seat, but no luck.

My brother had a car catalog from 78 and the 3000ME was on one of the first pages (figures as it is an AC) so it stood out for me anyway.
I’ve seldom seen the Le Mans. Let alone been in one. Damned.

I bet. I don’t know of any in the States, but I’m sure there’s one at least. These were the first I’d seen. Same for the Le Mans. The whole thing was one surprise after another. I don’t like the wheels, but that Alpine is awesome.

Golden centers is historically correct though, many Gottis on the A110 had that (or other colors, orange, red!) as well! What’s not to like?

These are too big, though. And the gold makes them look even more aftermarket. I don’t mind them as much on an A110. It’s hard to ruin that car.

The latest A110s came with a little too modern wheels. The ones you see on A310 as well. Not a fan of those.

Yeah, you’re right. These are the best shoes for it.

Yeah or some Gottis with the centers in another color!

Yeah, that two tone looks awesome on those Gottis. I could go for that.

As long as you’re going for 4 rally lights it’s all good to me! Man I need to find me that bar to mount ‘m on the Pao!

I love the way the Pao looks with rally lights. It’s a necessity.

Yeah, no idea where to find those bars though.

Maybe Flavien can help. They must be out there since I see a lot of pictures of Paos with them.
Look at how teeny those are. You can probably make one yourself with some brackets and, like, a towel rack.

Yeah I already asked him but he couldn’t deliver back then. The only Dutch guy having a Pao with one I know (online) did get it that way. Shouldn’t be that hard to make.
